Today I was going with a colleague in car and FM radio was playing the song Frozen by Madonna. I remember having heard this song earlier but never connected to the song the way I did yesterday. Came back home today and remembered to listen to the music.
Did a search on net and observed that this was the first single to be taken from the Ray Of Light album and went straight to No.1 in the UK in March 1998. The song spent 13 weeks on the chart, and was Madonna's 8th UK No.1 single. The song begin with very enchanting violin sequence and the lyrics are as follows
You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen when your heart's not open
You're so consumed with how much you get
You waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken. When your heart's not open
Mmm-mmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmm-mmm, we'd never be apart
Mmm-mmm, give yourself to me
Mmm-mmm, you hold the key
Now there's no point in placing the blame
And you should know I suffer the same
If I lose you my heart will be broken
Love is a bird she needs to fly
Let all the hurt inside of you die
You're frozen. When your heart's not open
...................If I could melt your heart.
I feel that the voice is amazing and song has been handled very delicately. Especially the video that has been set in background of a harsh desert. Madonna walks about the desert wearing a flowing black dress and her hands painted with Henna ink with Aum written on her palm. Some of the “mmm” feel like soft aum chanting.
The video also contains stunning special effects of Madonna changing into a murder of crows and a Doberman, Appeared to be dark still very soothing and in a very serious tone.
Was trying to figure out as to why this song appealed to me and then I remembered the theory of scoionomics that theorizes that that songs that you like reflects the mood.
As I look back I remembered that when the song was playing I had desert all around me. And the mood in my head where constantly feel as to what I am doing in this desert. The love that is referred in the song, in my view, is more about love for one self. Once we put this spin of self love to the song it becomes very profound. I was amazed to realise as to how a popular pop song from Madonna has such a deep meaning layered underneath.
Possibly this is a reminder to me "Let Go" and "Open my Heart to Love Myself"
